Hayloft Golfing Times
20 March 2010
Breadsall Priory 2010

Well this is the second time we have  visited Breadsall Priory, one of Derbyshires premier golfing venues. This time the field was somewhat shortened from 28 in 2009 to only 15.  The reasons could be many fold, the overall cost, the recession or simply the fall in membership.  For whatever reason the reduction in numbers  resulted in financial penalties to the society and for this reason it is unlikely that such venues will be included in the schedule in the near future.

Anyway on the day the stout 15 who did turn up enjoyed a great days golf.  The day started with a Bacon cob and Coffee in the David Cox room before heading out to the first tee.  One of the Features of the Priory Course, other than the slope, is the tree in the middle of the fairway.  I can only assume that  in the future any tree felling might reveal a memento of  Hayloft visits.
Despite the never ending winter the course was in fine fettle and proved a good challenge to golfers of all handicaps.

The target to beat this year was a score of 39 set by Ian Young.  Ian off a handicap of 17 managed to produce a gross round of 84.  This target was well within reach of the field who turned out on the day and the honours were taken by by Alan Brown with a score of 40. Second and third places went to Steve Jones and JJ respectively.

Billy Blue Hat went to Steve Maisey with a poultry score of 24, handicap management  perhaps.

When It came to the big hitters the Longest drive was taken by T Mac. Nearest the pin fell to Mick Moore.

On the day we had two guests Matt Cummings and Mick Woodhead.
Mick outscored  Matt by 2 points to take the Highest Palced  Guests prize of a nice bottle of wine.

Whilst elsewhere on the course Rob Jones had a bottom twitching moment on the 10th when he sliced one into the Hotel car park.
Could have been an expensive day out as Porsche windscreens are not  cheap.  With his previous history on putting through a window a Northshore he would be well advised to get some Insurance.

After the prize giving the day was rounded of by a 2 course meal.  This particular culinary delight consisted of a Steak & Kidney pie, with potatoes and seasonal vegetables, followed by apple pie and custard.

Whilst not to everyone's taste it was wolfed down with gusto by the majority.  particularly Mick Moore, whose straining shirt finally gave up the ghost to reveal the work of art he has been concealing all these years.
